AAC(UK) Sektion Britannia

Welcome to the Austrian Alpine Club (UK), we are the British Section of the ÖAV, Sektion Britannia!

The AAC(UK) is one of the largest mountaineering club in the UK with over 14,500 UK and overseas members.  The principal benefits of membership, at no extra charge, are:

  • Mountaineering Rescue Insurance; worldwide, without age limit and inclusive of repatriation;
  • Alpine Hut Rights; discounted accommodation costs in alpine huts belonging to the Alpine National Mountaineering Federations.  You will need to show your signed membership card.  Copies in any form may not be accepted.

Membership is open to ALL WORLDWIDE and is paid yearly.  Yearly memberships run from December to end of January (max. 14 months).  You may join anytime during the membership year, but all valid memberships will expire at the end of the following January.  Also, there are no reductions for applying late in the year. Price of membership depends on age, this can be seen before completing the membership form here:  http://aacuk.org.uk/p-membership-2018

Memberships cannot be applied for over the phone, please apply online.  Payment will be taken at the end with debit or credit card, we do not accept American Express.  If you would prefer to complete a Postal Application form please request one from the office.  2018 Membership will be valid until end of Jan 2019.

The membership form is for families/households, we do not do group applications as we require home addresses for insurance purposes. If travelling in a group is not a family residing together then applications will need to be completed seperately.

The Insurance covers Mountain Rescue, medical and repatriation.  Details about insurance and the official AWS leaflet can be found on the website: http://aacuk.org.uk/p-mountain-rescue-search-insurance  Please note that it is NOT a travel insurance so you will need to get cover for this.

Unfortunately, the office is unable to answer any specific Insurance questions, so if you still have questions please contact KNOX on tel. 0043 512 238 300 or AV-service@knox.co.at They are English speaking.  Quotes can be obtained before applying for membership.  You can also visit our FAQ’s: http://aacuk.org.uk/p-faqs-insurance

On successfully completing your application you will receive a Web Reference number.  Membership is not valid until the application has been processed which is when you have received your confirmation email. Processing takes place during office opening hours, so if you apply after closing hours or over a weekend you will need to wait until the office reopens. This email will confirm your membership number and the address that the membership card will be posted to (home address, unless you specify otherwise).  It will also confirm log on details for the members area of the website, where you can look at:

  • Newsletters
  • Activities, including training and grants available
  • Merchandise
  • Photo & Sketch Competition and much more.

If you are interested in any aspect of mountaineering, we warmly invite you to join!
