July 27 – August 6: Gross Glockner for Seniors, Austria
Great news is that the 10 spaces available on this tour have now been taken up. The tour is designed to give Seniors the opportunity to climb the Gross Glockner at an appropriately leisurely pace. The tour starts at Kaprun near Zell am See and initially heads to the Heinrich Schwaiger Haus for an ascent of the Wieisbach Horn (3564m). Thereafter it follows part of the Glockner Runde Tour to the Rudolfs Berg Hotel with the Stubacher Sonnblick (3033m) being the next objective. After crossing the Kalser Tauern pass and descending to the charming Kalser Tauern Haus, the group will transfer to the Studl Hut for the Glockner summit bid.
Participants undertaking the tour will need to carry their own personal climbing gear of axe and crampons, harness and slings and share carrying the rope(s) and other group gear. This will be quite a strenuous tour with most days being around five hours duration, although there a couple of long days.
The tour will be led by Allan Hartley, who holds the International Mountain Leader award and is a qualified mountain REC first aider. ... See MoreSee Less
